About Hachinohe
A fishing port with the morning markets to go with it, on a coast that changes character every few hundred metres. The twelve kilometres of shoreline south of the port — rock, then pine, then a natural lawn running down to the water — were designated a national place of scenic beauty in 1937, and it is the lawn that surprises people.
Within reach of the port
Tanesashi Coast
Twelve kilometres of shore and 880 hectares with it, protected since 1937. The stretch at Tanesashi itself is grass growing right to the tideline, which is not something the rest of this coast does. A one-coin bus runs along it in season.

Kabushima
A rock at the north end of the same coast, and a black-tailed gull colony — tens of thousands of birds, close enough to be loud. A shrine sits on top of it. The colony has been a national natural monument for a century.
The morning markets
Six or seven of them around the city depending on the day. The one by Mutsuminato station runs on weekdays and Saturdays and is where the fish goes before it goes anywhere else.

Shore excursions
NYK Cruises run their own guided excursions at each port, booked by guests themselves through My ASUKA PLANS — the booking window opens before departure and depends on your cabin class. They are conducted in Japanese. Going ashore independently is always an option.
