About Miyakojima
A low island of raised coral with no mountains and almost no rivers, which is why the water around it is as clear as it is — nothing washes off the land. Bridges now join it to three neighbours, and the longest of them is the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. Most of a call here is spent on beaches and on those bridges.
Within reach of the port
Higashi-Hennazaki
A cape two kilometres long at the eastern end of the island, with the Pacific on one side and the East China Sea on the other, and a lighthouse at the point. A walking path runs the length of it past plants the prefecture protects.

Yonaha Maehama
Seven kilometres of white sand on the south-west coast facing Kurima island, shelving so gently that the water stays shallow a long way out.

The Irabu bridge
3,540 metres to Irabu island, opened in January 2015, and the longest bridge in Japan you can cross without paying. The water either side of it changes colour with the depth, which is the reason to drive it slowly.

Shore excursions
NYK Cruises run their own guided excursions at each port, booked by guests themselves through My ASUKA PLANS — the booking window opens before departure and depends on your cabin class. They are conducted in Japanese. Going ashore independently is always an option.
