About Motobu
A limestone peninsula facing the East China Sea, with karst hills and cherry trees inland. The port is the northern hub of the prefecture and the ferry link to Ie and the islands beyond it; Okinawa designated it a cruise terminal in 2017 and has been building it up for ships since. What draws five million visitors a year to a town this size is twenty minutes up the coast, inside the Ocean Expo Park.
Within reach of the port
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
The largest visitor attraction in Okinawa, on the headland at Cape Bise inside the Ocean Expo Park. Chura means clear or beautiful in Okinawan, and the tank it is known for holds whale sharks and manta rays in water drawn from the sea in front of it.
The fukugi lanes at Bise
A grid of sand lanes between fukugi trees, planted generations ago to break the sea wind and still standing over the houses they were planted for. The hamlet looks after them itself. It is a short walk from the aquarium and a completely different hour.

Shore excursions
NYK Cruises run their own guided excursions at each port, booked by guests themselves through My ASUKA PLANS — the booking window opens before departure and depends on your cabin class. They are conducted in Japanese. Going ashore independently is always an option.
