About Onahama
The port of Iwaki, a fishing and industrial harbour that has spent the last decade rebuilding what the tsunami of March 2011 took and answering what came after it. The aquarium on the quay is the reason most visitors come, and it is one that talks about the sea off Fukushima rather than around it.

Aquamarine Fukushima
On the pier itself. Around eight hundred species, built around the meeting of the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents that happens off this coast — a tank you look up through where the two waters meet. There is a stretch you wade into and a woodland outside about what the rivers bring down.

Shioyazaki lighthouse
On the cliff north of the port, and one of the few lighthouses in Japan you can climb. The coast from the top runs to the horizon in both directions.

The park on the quay
Aquamarine Park spreads over the first three wharves, with a market hall, a viewing bridge over the harbour mouth, and events through the year. The ship ties up in the middle of it.

Shore excursions
NYK Cruises run their own guided excursions at each port, booked by guests themselves through My ASUKA PLANS — the booking window opens before departure and depends on your cabin class. They are conducted in Japanese. Going ashore independently is always an option.
