About Yokkaichi
A petrochemical port, and one that has turned that into the reason to come. Three refinery complexes line the bay and the city treats them as a view: from a tower a hundred metres up, from bridges and embankments, and from a boat that goes in among them after dark. The bay is also the way to Ise and Nagashima, both within an hour inland.

Yokkaichi calls it a three-dimensional night view — from above at the port tower, from the ground at a dozen marked spots, and from the water. Boat trips among the complexes have run since 2010.
Nabana no Sato
A flower park half an hour north that runs one of the largest winter illuminations in Japan, including a tunnel of lights several hundred metres long. Open from autumn through spring.
Ise Jingu
An hour south, and the most important shrine in Japan — rebuilt on an adjacent site every twenty years for thirteen centuries, so what stands is never old and the practice is. The approach through the forest is the point rather than the buildings.
Shore excursions
NYK Cruises run their own guided excursions at each port, booked by guests themselves through My ASUKA PLANS — the booking window opens before departure and depends on your cabin class. They are conducted in Japanese. Going ashore independently is always an option.
